9:00am Matteo Arm v8.5 updates

Not recorded

  • Takes approx 2-3 years to get any architectural changes that require compiler changes before a major Red Hat distro is released.  This is because the compiler version is chosen and frozen this early in the development of the distro. Architectural changes that must go in the kernel take about 1-2 years.  It must be accepted upstream by the kernel freeze date of the distro’s major release.

  • Jon and Andy will draft a statement/plan to capture what the dependencies are for future publicly announced Arm features.

9:45am Gema SDI

  • Acknowledge loss of resources

  • Arm has some time with CodeThink that can maybe take over some of the tasks that have lost resources.

  • SUSE has been running BluStor in production for a year now, so it’s done for SUSE.  Upstream uses Ceph Ansible, which is the official way to deploy Ceph

  • Tony:  Storage needs RDMA,

  • Gema asks Tony about storage library that Arm was going to enable?  Decision was not to create a new library, but instead add support for the existing library.  Patches are available. Tone (ME) is working on it, and will be replaced.

  • LW: Can use Amazon Cloud? See a proposal on how to close on this? Class A citizen for OpenStack. Gema: Need resources to run and enable the jobs.  Also need additional enablement. As well as a 2nd Developer Cloud instance for redundancy.

  • EW: Possible to collaborate with other teams

  • LW: Ceph lower priority;

10:30am Jorge Dev Cloud

  • Austin Co-lo being shut down - outdated hardware with no plans to update

  • LW: Why aren’t build systems using Developer Cloud?  Action item: Elsie to find out. Enable Arm on Arm.

11:15am Big Data

  • Ganesh is monitoring the Apache ecosystem.

  • Andy/JM - what can we do to advocate with Apache? At Apache-con? Talks? Can we leverage Arm marketing dollars for podcasts and such?

  • LW: Expecting UofM at San Diego Connect.

  • MariaDB (a fork of MySQL) is typically shipped. MariaDB and MySQL (Oracle) are different projects which may not have the same fixes.

  • MySQL is no longer a fully open source project.

  • Suggestion to Huawei is to post a bugs in MySQL project and provide a solution.

12:15pm Linux performance on many-core/NUMA systems - Rafael

12:30pm HPC SIG Update Rafael

  • JM: Make sure performance benchmarks on bare metal only, not VM’s

  • LW:  Adding debian is a don’t care.  He is interested in CentOS

  • LW:  Would put Singularity ahead of KVM.  Sandia is using it.

  • LW:  Would not put emphasis on Client - because it’s working.  Server is an issue, and would be interested in Linaro moving this forward.

  • AW:  Everytime there is a new release, tests will be run on our openHPC cluster.

  • AW: Renato’s OpenHPC TSC position. Rafael/Elsie will follow up on process to replace Renato.

1:15pm LTN

  • Currently Paused. Interest in restarting? Akraino Cloud side

  • LEDGE is looking at Akraino from a device attachment perspective

  • LW: Proposed response - interested but don’t have resources to engage in the project at this time.

  • LW:  Marvell is interested, but won’t contribute resources.

  • LW:  Do distro’s support DPDK

  • Pravin:  What networking technologies is each company interested in

    • KK:  Huawei’s product line is directly involved, so he does not  concern himself with Networking

    • Larry:  ServerBU not interested

  • Pravin:  He is interested in OVS

  • All are engaged in the open source community and nothing for Linaro to work on.

  • Larry:  Right people are not at the LDCG table.  How should Networking be handled?

Collaborations 2:00 CT

  • OSEC - Elsie acts as host; crowdsourcing.

  • Works On Arm

    • Goal is to provide public access via Packet and enable projects access to Arm hardware.

  • Linux Foundation

    • ODPi (Linaro a member)

    • OpenHPC (TSC seat?)

  • Packet

  • Vexxhost

  • Amazon

  • Jorge:  The Openstack  has a group called “Public cloud workgroup”

  • Jorge: we could form a arm64 sig under this group and congregate vexxhost/packet under this umbrella/group to coordinate collaboration?

  • Larry:  VERN uses Openstack components

  • Andy: All CI/CD projects are different.

Brainstorm Future Projects

  • CNCF: KubeVirt - using container orchestration using virtualization

  • Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence

    • AW:  Maybe this is for HPC

    • LW:  Thinks HPC and AI will merge over time.
