Minutes

  • Mention of the highlight of HC was the COLO storage/maintenance and power usage changes.
    • Larry asked how long COLO contract is - We are just starting the final year in initial 3 year contract.
    • Graeme - plans to discuss with SC COLO usage going forth now public clouds have ARM (Larry Azure is currently infrastructure servers only not public) (Andy there is also Packet for hosting).
    • Kangkang - prefers to keep COLO but wants a hardware upgrade cycle as some software like Kubernetes evolves faster than public cloud can deploy.
  • LBI Discussion
    • January is target for LDCG to push them upwards to TSC as detailed in LDCG timetable email.
    • Anmar - the LBIs don't have to be a complete LP template proposal but need enough info that TSC can quickly decide interest.
    • Al considered the LBIs to be under infoed currently but had missed the futurewei slide decks, but we need to make sure the remaining LBI's have some form of initial proposal in them.
    • Kangkang we need to prioritise which LBI's we want to push in next meeting.
    • DCV
      • Graeme to make this a full LBI using the out of date proposal as start as requested by SC
      • Guodong - Huawei is launching OpenEuler which has similar remit to DCV so DCV may be de-prioritised from Huawei. But asks how other members do similar pre-release testing/deployment. Do they see the need?
      • Andy sees DCV of evolution of ERP (Graeme sees main delivery vehicle of DCV being a container)
    • OCI "HW Accelerator" Extensions
      • General - Needs more details or a presentation.
    • SmartNIC
      • Andy - Collate all Grants discussions and check we have enough info.
  • AOB
    • AI on Server
      • Kangkang felt White Paper was a good intro to the subject.
    • Scheduler Work LBI-15 Li Wan Update
      • Work work planned to schedule better on NUMA nodes.
      • Some adaption of the BIG.little work to servers to allow scheduler to handle currently throttled cores (ie power load has meant frequency reduction) so scheduler can make more intelligent decisions about task placements.
      • Core binding of tasks in discussion
      • KK - High core count handling really essential for ARM servers.
