Summary

On March 31st 2020 the vote was unanimous to convert the HPC SIG to an Open Project. This enabled engineering discussions to be open to the public.

Linaro is fully committed to ongoing work with HPC. It has been noted that the HPC-SIG status as a SIG is unique in Linaro's group/team/projects structure.

To bring HPC-SIG into line we wish to gather votes to approve the transition of SIG status to Project Status. This action will enable more potential members to join for a smaller fee and without the requirement for the member to provide a commitment of an assignee engineer.

It is also hoped that those new members to a HPC Project might be drawn in to working with other groups and therefore increase their financial and resource engagement with Linaro.

This does not undermine discussion groups such as the ARM HPC User Group (AHUG) because Linaro complements this group with engineering activity.

The HPC Project would continue to host the OpenHPC CI testing and is taking an active part in the OpenHPC TSC as a Testing Coordinator for Aarch64.

Voting will run until August 7th and the result will be presented at the next HPC meeting on August 18th.
