Video & Presentation Resources

The screenshot above shows the interface when creating a new resource on the Hub. The fields shown in red are required values.

  • Custom Thumbnail allows you to specify the image to be used as the background of the card when the Resource is displayed. If not provided, the Hub will select a frame of video to use automatically.

  • Permissions allows you to select one or more permissions in order to restrict who can access this resource. This is only visible if Private Resource has been selected. A resource can be toggled between being private and public as required.

  • Participants allows you to specify who has been involved in creating or presenting the content for this resource. There must be at least one participant.

  • Resource Tags allows you to specify the tags that inform the viewer what the content is about. Tags are also used to group similar content together and also to feed into the themes that a resource is associated with.

  • Scheduled Release Date allows you to specify the publication date of a Resource. This date is then displayed on the Resource card and used when sorting resources by date order. If the date/time is in the future, the Resource will not be accessible or displayed until that date/time has passed, unless you are the contributor of that resource or an administrator.

Adding Content

When a video file is dragged onto the page or added through the “Add File” button, three additional buttons appear next to it:

The first button allows you to change the filename that will be used when videos are allowed to be downloaded.

The second button allows you to let the transcription service auto-detect the language(s) used in the video or, if English is used, specify that instead in order to take advantage of the custom dictionary. A custom dictionary helps the transcription service better match words like “Linaro” and that feature only works if you specify the language.

The third button allows you to remove the file from the resource.

If uploading a file other than a video, the buttons displayed will allow you to change the filename or remove the file.

Resource Creation

When you click on the “Create Resource” button, the first thing that happens is that the specified file(s) is/are uploaded. Do not navigate away from the page while this is happening!

After the files have been uploaded, the browser will return to the “Manage Resources” page. The location of the resource within the list of resources will depend on the secheduled release date, as they are sorted by date order, newest first.

In the Manage Resources table, there are two columns that show what the system is doing to prepare the resource:

  • “Status” is the processing of the video to prepare it for multiple video sizes. During the processing phase, the percentage processed will be displayed. After completion, one of the following icons will be displayed:

if the processing has completed but the resource is set for a future date/time.

if the processing has completed and the resource has been published.

  • “Transcription Status” is the creation of the subtitles.

Due to a fixed limit in the service used to create subtitles, subtitles will only be created if the duration of a submitted video is less than 4 hours. A warning will be displayed as a reminder if appropriate.

At the moment, the subtitles are created for the spoken languages used. In the future, the audio will be translated into all of the Hub-supported languages and subtitles created accordingly.

Resource Editing

You can change anything about a resource (title, description, public/private, permissions, participants, tags, release date, files).

When you click on “Update Resource”, the changes you’ve made will be applied. If you get in a mess, click on “Reset Form” to put the page back to the original values/settings.
