Resources are the fundamental entity within the Hub. A resource can have:

  • One video

  • One or more presentations

When submitted, videos are processed support multiple sizes and then transcribed to create subtitles.

At the moment, the subtitles are created only for the specified language, which is currently restricted to English or Chinese. In the future, the audio will be translated into all of the Hub-supported languages and subtitles created accordingly.

The screenshot above shows the interface when creating a new resource on the Hub. The fields shown in red are required values.

At the moment, a private resource cannot be changed to a public one, and vice-versa, after it has been created. This will be possible in the future.

If you select “Private Resource”, an additional field will appear, allowing you to specify one or more Permissions to apply to this resource.

Adding Content

When a video file is dragged onto the page or added through the “Add File” button, three additional buttons appear next to it:

The first button allows you to change the filename that will be used when videos are allowed to be downloaded.

The second button allows you to specify the primary language used in the video, currently restricted to English or Chinese. The reason for needing to specify the language is because we use a custom dictionary to help the transcription service better match words like “Linaro” and that feature only works if you specify the language.

The third button allows you to remove the file from the resource.

If uploading a file other than a video, you can change the filename or remove the file.

Resource Creation

When you click on the “Create Resource” button, the first thing that happens is that the specified file(s) is/are uploaded. Do not navigate away from the page while this is happening!

After the files have been uploaded, the browser will return to the “Manage Resources” page where the new resource will be at the top of the list. There are two columns that show what the system is doing to prepare the resource:

  • “Status” is the processing of the video to prepare it for multiple video sizes.

  • “Transcription Status” is the creation of the subtitles.

At the moment, you just see a rotating dot to show that something is happening. In the future, the progress percentage will be displayed.

Resource Editing

You can change anything about a resource (title, description, permissions, participants, tags, theme, release date, files) except for whether or not it is a public or a private resource.

When you click on “Update Resource”, the changes you’ve made will be applied. If you get in a mess, click on “Reset Form” to put the page back to the original values/settings.
