  • Ashok will not be able to present today. Moved to next meeting.

    • CI is stable, but tests are taking too long to execute.
    • Initially, maintainers suspected that this was a problem only with Arm builds.
    • Kevin proposal to increase the timeout value was rejected. Maintainers are investigating why the execution time is so longer on Arm.
    • Finally, it was found that there is an overall regression in how long the test takes on the main development branch. End-to-end test on release-3.5 takes 15 minutes, while it is taking 40 minutes in main, regardless of the underlying processor architecture. Community continues the investigation on what is going on.
  • Tensorflow
    • Internal changes in the build process: new docker container.

  • DAOS (update from Kevin Zhao):
    
    • DAOS currently supports two types of back end:
      • Intel's Optane PMEM
      • NVMe
    • Intel decided to give up the Optane PMEM. So, from the DAOS side, the impact is that the Intel Optane PMEM back end development is entering into maintenance, no more new feature development but just serving the "stock customer".
    • NVMe portion is not affected. The community is working on moving the metadata service to NVMe.
    • That said, DAOS is still one of the top selected distributed storage solutions for HPC on Intel. W.r.t future technology evolution, the Intel PMEM policy is tending to use CXL interfaces in the future, more aligned with other storage device vendors, and which will be more generic and can be used by many architectures. So as with the HPC storage solutions, DAOS will be still supported by Intel and it will seek the opportunity in the CXL based persistent memory.
