Agenda

  • Healthcheck preview

  • AOB

Minutes

  • Discussed the consolidated proposal as a work-in-progress to the Steering Committee.

  • Overall the SC had no objections to pursuing SmartNIC with the interested parties present.

  • Tomas Fredberg from Ericsson opened discussion - looking to software defined partitioning of a network. Chris Rossmith presented the attached slides.

  • Telecoms are looking for technologies which are standardised and interchangeable.

  • Maciek Konstantynowicz from Cisco discussed the opportunity for dataplane technologies such as VPP (FD.IO). VPP could reside solely on SmartNIC. Could support containers.

  • Cisco are interested in NVMe over IP/Ethernet rather than specialised InfiniBand hardware. Looking for performance optimised hardware at the network and PCIe level - standardised.

  • Cisco/Ericsson agree they have a very large overlap in requirements and can work collaboratively in the OpenSource ecosystem.

  • NXP presented products based on LX2160A - not as a solution but a review of evolving requirements.

  • Suggestion is to move forward as a voluntary project with voluntary engineers and see what interim work can be developed that may attract others later.

  • Recommend Cisco/Ericsson remain as advisers to ongoing development and join in with existing Linaro members.
